Last night I saw a program on NBC hosted by Tom Brokaw about Global Warming. He was supporting the work of Al Gore and his new movie dealing with global warming called "An Inconvenient Truth". Now, granted, thanks to George Bush and the other republican psychos running the American government, we have had more anti-science and, thereby, anti-global-warming propaganda slurrying out of the media than ever. However, I thought Tom Brokaw might be leading a double-agent role in this show he hosted. We all need to conserve energy. We ALL need to conserve the resources of the Earth and that includes both its capacity to produce for us, AND its capacity to absorb our waste, including greenhouse gases. Tom Brokaw touched on HALF of this argument. He talked about how much each household needs to conserve and drive less and change lightbulbs, etc. etc. etc. This is fine and dandy. But lest we forget, Tom Brokaw is famous. And he is Media. And he has notoriety, and credibility, and hence, sway. He can actually convince the public about his argument. The argument that it is up to individuals and households to reduce energy use and reduce greenhouse (carbon) emissions.
Here is where my argument comes in. The White House probably has Tom Brokaw on its propaganda department payroll. Seeing that there was no way to avoid the whole Global Warming problem, they have come to turn the Ameican Public into the main enemy and its main offender. They are doing this because they are REPUBLIUCANS. They favor BUSINESS! The Kyoto protocol gives a certain output of greenhouse gases limit to each country. We have a limit that we need to meet. What the White House and Brokaw are asking is that the PEOPLE decrease their output to make it seem like we are DOING something about Global Warming, only to help businesses be allowed to fill in that output that the people cut out. The less the people put out, the more businesses can put out, because Kyoto lets us to this. And the Republican politicians come out of it looking fabulous!
What Tom Brokaw needs to be doing is exposing the fact that the output of greenhouse gases in the U.S. is BY FAR produced by BUSINESSES, not households and individuals. Heaven forbid we ask businesses to curb their emissions. The U.S. economy would come to a standstill because costs would rise, people would buy less and rich people would get richer more slowly than now. Rich people typically equals republicans in government.
So mister Tom Brokaw, please be real and expose the businesses for what they are...the real polluters of the world. Not the individual household.
By the way, the way Brokaw presented the whole thing in his show was to make big black animated cubes representing how much CO2 is emitted by the individual household, coming out of toasters, electric stoves and other household appliances. The only thing actually emitting CO2 in the individual household, that TRULY WAS emitting CO2 was the car. All the others were simple energy use where the CO2 emission was happening in the Energy Company power plant. Yes, the power that we would conserve would turn around and be sold to Businsses instead! They would use more while we would conserve. This is all a conspiracy to get us to turn over our energy use to Businsses.
